We all know how the music industry is changing. I’m of the generation who spent many happy hours in record stores. We now have a worldwide catalogue at our fingertips ready for immediate download. It is vital to support songwriters, composers, performers and music publishers.
Just like any other input into your business, the use of musical compositions and performances must be paid for. Under law, two distinct permissions are required by businesses in Ireland who play music – one (IMRO) which covers the public performance of copyright music on behalf of composers, songwriters and music publishers and the other which covers the public performance of sound recordings on behalf of record producers and performers (PPI).
From from January 1st 2016, IMRO and PPI licences will be included in the Dual Music Licence to be administered by IMRO.
